Filming for Southern Song and Stories documentary begins! LIVE TAPING NOV. 15!

We are thrilled to be the subject of an exciting project called Southern Songs and Stories, a documentary series presented by WNCW 88.7FM’s program director Joe Kendrick and Tony Preston of Moonlight Mile Productions.  The series explores the music of the South and the artists who make it, showcasing their performances and discovering the stories behind their songs with a look at their lives both on and off the stage. This series has previously featured Asheville's fantastic country band The Honeycutters and Saluda's wonderful singer-songwriter Aaron Burdett.

Our episode will be filmed primarily in western North Carolina with forays around the region, following us to shows and on-location shoots, showcasing the things that inspire and influence our music. Filming has already begun, beginning with a taping of our performance at the historic Cowee School. This was a special show because it is very close to the Tellico area of western NC, with many residents in attendance that had stories to share about this amazing area.

We have also done a shoot of an Asheville bluegrass jam at the Isis Music Hall with Stig, and an intimate living room interview with Anya and her mentor Arvil Freeman, a legendary fiddler from western North Carolina. Filming will continue in the next few weeks as the film crew heads to Anya’s home in southwestern Virginia to meet with more of Anya’s influences: instrument makers and old time musicians Jackson Cunningham (Rugby, VA) and Mac Traynham (Floyd, VA). Joe and Tony will also check out the High Country and talk dobros with Aaron and shop for vinyl with Jed in Asheville.

The filming will culminate with a LIVE TAPING AND DOCUMENTARY PREVIEW ON SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH IN ARDEN, NC AT MOONLIGHT MILE VIDEO PRODUCTION STUDIO! This will be great way to hear us and also be a part of this documentary! We will play a long set of music on the Moonlight Mile studio stage and Joe and Tony will prepare a special showcase of video clips from our adventures. We will be on hand for hors d'oeuvres and conversation afterwards!

Here is how to join us:

Joe Kendrick has several giving levels for his Kickstarter campaign ("Chicken on a June Bug" and "Southern Charm") that include invitations to the taping in addition to other perks. Kickstarter backers get priority seating for the event! There are other opportunities to pick up Tellico CDs and shirts, and of course we will keep you in the loop with our adventures with Joe and Tony through our Facebook page (you can like us https://www.facebook.com/tellico/).
Hope you are able to join us!
